In 2006 I went to Alaska for the first time with a good friend of mine. We took a chance on a lodge I had read about in the Alaska mag.( http://www.alaskaseaottersoundlodge.com/)and it turned out to be I winner. We fished mainly in the ocean for silver and pink salmon (first week of Sept.), halibut and all kinds of other bottom fish. Dave and I took one day that we traveled to the far side of Heceta Island and fished a small stream that the salmon were running on. The water was about 12 inches deep and we really had to kick fish out of the way to get a place to fish from. At points the fish would surge up the stream. The seals were pretty thick at the mouth of the stream and many fish ended up as a meal that day. We saw plenty of sighn of bears but none showed up that day. By the end of our stay Dave and I each brought home around 100 lbs of fish. I met some of the best people in the world up there. Even with travel issues due to weather I still had a great time. Last year I went back to the lodge in June as part of a work crew that built new lodge houses and helped to fix up the old ones. This year I am going up over the 4th of July to fish for King salmon.
