Geese and Ducks, pt 1

Our geese and ducks arrived June 14. The postman brought them to our door, he rearranged his route so he could get them to us first thing in the morning and then visited with us for a few minutes before he went back to his route. I love the laid-back rural farm life here.

This is our favorite picture of the birds. The two big ones are Toulouse geese and the other three are Peking ducks.
In this picture, Nathanael has all the ducks in the circle of his arms so the all-yellow ones you see in the foreground of the picture are White Chinese geese.
Jacob is being so very gentle with his Toulouse goose. (I love to say that: Toulouse goose, Toulouse goose, Toulouse goose.)

And here is Elisabeth with a sleepy duck.
The kids decided that their ducks and geese had very important roles in the community. Since the Toulouse are French they are the chefs, the Peking ducks are the scholars, and the White Chinese geese are the Kung-fu warriors. The chickens are the commoners and not nearly so important as shown by the lack of photographic evidence when they were babies. (We did get 25 laying hens the day before the ducks and geese came. And they were cute too, but they don't have the reputation of being mean if they aren't handled a lot when they are young, so they didn't get played with every day like the ducks and geese did.)
